Students will travel to the beautiful Current River; a cool, spring-fed river, part of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, in Southeast Missouri, with an experienced guide from Nahant Marsh; spending five days and nights exploring this incredible river by canoe and hiking it’s trails. Designed to provide the student with a “living laboratory” experience in a natural wilderness area, the course will focus on learning the flora, fauna, and geology of the Ozarks region, the Current River, and some of the largest natural springs in North America. The student will develop an appreciation of the wilderness environment and gain some basic skills of canoeing, water safety, camping, fishing, wilderness survival, map reading, and navigation/orientation by compass. The course will meet three times prior to the trip to prepare (July 21, July 28, and August 4, 2020) at Nahant Marsh from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Trip dates: August 12-17, to the Current River in Missouri. This class is for people 18 years of age or older.
