Do you enjoy children? Do you have a baccalaureate degree? Would you like part-time employment? Local school districts are struggling with a shortage of substitute teachers. A substitute authorization can be issued to a person with a baccalaureate degree or a Paraeducator who completes Eastern Iowa Community Colleges' Board of Educational Examiners Approved Substitute Authorization Program. The course content will include Ethics, Classroom Management, Diversity and Instructional Strategies. Upon completion of the course and the submission of Educational Examiners, an individual is eligible to be authorized to substitute in a K-12 institution for no more than five consecutive days in one job assignment. An individual who holds a Paraeducator certificate and completes the substitute authorization program is authorized to substitute only in the special education classroom in which the individual Paraeducator is employed. Prerequisites: Holds a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution or completed an approved Paraeducator certification program and holds a Paraeducator certificate. Minimum age of 21 years.
