Do you enjoy children? Do you have an Associate Degree? Would you like part-time employment? Local schools are struggling with a shortage of substitute teachers. A substitute authorization can be issued to a person with an Associate Dress, 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited institution, or a Paraeducator who completes the Eastern Iowa Community College Board of Educational Examiners Approved Substitute Authorization Program. The course content will include Ethics, Classroom Management, Diversity, and Instructional Strategies. Upon completion of the course and the submission of the requirements and fees of the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, an individual is eligible to be authorized to substitute in a K-12 institution for no more than five consecutive days in one job assignment. An individual who holds a Paraeducator Certificate and completes the substitute authorization program is authorized to substitute only in the special education classroom in which the individual Paraeducator is employed.
Prerequisite: Holds an Associate Degree, 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited institution, or completed an approved Paraeducator Certification program and holds a Paraeducator Certificate. Minimum age of 20 years.
