The AVR Academy teaches the skills needed to be successful in creating Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality content and applications for industry and training. These skills also enable students to work in architecture and product visualization, game creation, multimedia design and broadcast media. Students receive nine months of training. Upon completion, students have the option of entering directly into the workforce or continuing their education toward an Associate in Applied Sciences (AAS) Degree. EICC has quickly become a leader in Augmented and Virtual Reality training. The college unveiled its new Virtual Reality lab in 2016. The equipment for the lab was funded in part by a $15 million grant awarded to Iowa’s community colleges by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment & Training Administration. That lab has since been moved to even better facilities in the college's new Scott Community College Urban Campus in downtown Davenport. The new campus was opened in 2018.
