From Play to Practice: AI Geeking in Higher Education

Have you toyed with ChatGPT prompts or dabbled in AI-generated visuals—but never quite known how to bring that experimentation into your syllabus or class instruction? Join us July 22–24, 9 AM–12 PM at the Urban Campus for AI Geeking, a three-day, hands-on workshop where play meets purpose. You will: 

• Explore all the latest updates and news in AI as it is constantly changing and updating 

• “Geek out” on 5–7 AI tools (text, image, audio) in a low-pressure playground 

• Collaborate on small experiments—tiny, rapid prototypes of AI-powered lessons and assignments 

• Get peer and instructor feedback so you leave with ready-to-go plans 

Pre-work: Bring 1–2 lesson topics or assignments you’d like to explore infusing with AI, plus login credentials for any school-approved platforms (ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, MagicSchool, Adobe Firefly, etc.). 

By the end of our three days together, you will be able to  

• Experiment & Reflect: Use at least one generative AI tool to prototype a new learning experience and one AI-enhanced assignment or project 

• Analyze & Inspire: Explore examples of AI integration in higher ed and unpack what made them click (or flop) 

• Plan & Collaborate: Draft an AI-infused lesson or assignment for your own course, then solicit and incorporate peer feedback. 

• Toolkit Fluency: Confidently navigate 5-7 AI platforms – text, image, and audio – and match each to specific pedagogical goals. 

• Mindset Shift: Articulate at least two strategies for weaving digital fluency and AI literacy into teaching and learning
