In this cultural art workshop, you’ll learn about Ojo de Dios, or “God’s Eye,” a spiritual and symbolic object traditionally made by the Huichol (Wixárika) Indigenous people of Mexico. These objects are created as expressions of protection, gratitude, and spiritual connection, often woven as part of ritual and storytelling practices.
You’ll begin with an introduction to the history and meaning of Ojo de Dios, including its symbolism, materials, and cultural significance. Then, you’ll be guided step by step through the process of creating your own woven piece using sticks and yarn. Along the way, you’ll learn basic weaving techniques, color symbolism, and how patterns grow outward from the center.
This workshop emphasizes mindful making, cultural appreciation, and hands-on creativity. No prior weaving experience is required, and all materials are provided. You’ll leave with a finished Ojo de Dios and a deeper understanding of its cultural roots, symbolism, and significance.
