TARGET AUDIENCE: This training is designed for healthcare professionals, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, substance abuse counselors, prevention specialists, mental health professionals, law enforcement, corrections, community coalition members, in-home service providers, school staff, policy makers and other helping and allied professionals.  This training is open to the public.

Learn more about what addiction really looks like.  This conference includes what is addiction and factors that contribute to addiction, current drug trends in Iowa, drug endangered children, the impacts and science of marijuana commercialization, meth in Iowa, signs and dangers of addiction, avenues for treatment and recovery, and how to apply sustainable hope and sobriety.

Please read:  ** NOTE: 6.5 Contact Hours/CEHs are provided for this class At the end of the presentations, participants should be able to: 1. Define addiction and factors that can contribute to addiction; 2. Understand brain development and how trauma can effect addiction; 3. Understand the difference between todays corporately produced marijuana and what grows naturally and has been consumed in the past; 4. Identify current forms of THC consumption including edibles, vaporizers and concentrates; 5. Discuss the science of today’s marijuana and the harms associated with it; 6. Discuss the effects of addiction on children, families, and communities; 7. Recognize the risk and complications of opioid abuse; 8. Recognize the signs and spiraling dangers of addiction; 9. Learn avenues for immediate treatment and recovery; 10. Learn how to apply sustainable hope and sobriety; 11. Understand the mental health/substance abuse connection; 12. Understand current methamphetamine trends; 13. Understand methamphetamine addiction; and 14. Learn about the effects of methamphetamine.
